Top Tips for Making Social Media Easier

Being a Business Owner or Entrepreneur means wearing many hats and social media can be part of that.

Wearing lots of hats

You wear one hat for providing your service, one for administration, one for bookkeeping, another for sales, HR, IT, marketing, the list goes on!

Now I’m not doubting your amazing skills, however, unless you are superhuman, you can’t posibily carry out each and every task to the absolute best it can be and still have a work life balance, maintain your sanity and be having fun along the way.

Marketing is an essential part of running a successful and thriving business and having a strong marketing strategy is key to that. Marketing can come in many forms from networking, a website, social media, blogging, podcasts and more. It can be any touch point where someone comes in contact with your business. Therefore you want each touch point to be a great representation of you and your business.

It is not essential for you to have social media, however you should know that 50% of new customers discover a new brand or business through social media, that’s half of all customers find a new brand or business on social media, so if you aren’t there you lose that chance. And over 75% of people who had a positive experience with a business or brand on social media, went on to recommend them to family and friends. So although you don’t ‘have’ to have a social media presence, I would absolutely recommend that you do.

Top Tips

Social media can be tough, it be complicated as there is so much conflicting advice online, it can be hard to know which ones to listen to and to follow. So if you are finding your social media a chore right now then try these;

πŸ¦„ Reinject fun back into the process
Try doing a personal post and sharing something about you outside of your business, or use a funny GIF in your graphics, or add some humour into your post and show your funny side, have fun with it and let your personality shine through.

πŸ¦„ Start small
If its becoming too much then start small, aim for 1 post per week until you are comfortable with that, then move up to two, then three, but aim for what is realistic for you. Don’t overwhelm yourself, try not to put too much pressure on yourself, just work on being consistent.

πŸ¦„ Use templates
Graphics and templates created in Canva will not only save you oodles of time, but also give you brand consistency. Whether you have templates created for you, or you spend the time designing them yourself, it will make your whole social media strategy flow better and make it less overwhelming.

πŸ¦„ Batch your content
It’s much easier to create content when you’re in the zone, you will get way more done in a shorter space of time if you can create a week, two weeks, or even a month’s content in one go and then schedule it out. The time you will save in doing this is invaluable.

πŸ¦„ Schedule
There are FREE tools out there that allow you to schedule up to 30 days in advance, use them. This will save you masses of time, create consistency and ensure you are marketing your business even during your busy times.

πŸ¦„ Do NOT post & ghost
If you are simply pumping content out but taking no time to engage with others then you will hear crickets. It’s called social media for a reason, it’s meant to be social. The platforms want you to be a contributing member of their community and the more you give, the more they will reward you. To make it manageable start engaging with 15 minutes a day three times a week. When I say engagement I mean liking, commenting, sharing other people’s content. Those whose content you find interesting, as the more you engage with certain content, the more it will show you more of the same. Then take the time to build up your engagement gradually, a little at a time.
