You’re a business owner, which means you are juggling clients, emails, content creation, marketing, admin, invoicing, all while trying to function as a normal functioning adult, so that means dinner prep, managing the kids diaries, paying bills and everything in between. And then you read a post on LinkedIn from a ‘marketing guru’ you admire, that you should be doing a festive campaign!
Cue the overwhelm.
Suddenly, you’re thinking about snowflake graphics, Christmas offers, setting up your auto-responder, and wondering how on earth you’re supposed to keep your business visible, all while you’re knee-deep in wrapping paper and cookie crumbs.
But fear not, wonderful human. This is where my seasonal marketing magic comes in. It doesn’t have to be stressful, it doesn’t have to take MASSES of your time, you don’t have to spend loads of money, in fact, with just a little prep, it can be really fun and have a massive impact.
Festive marketing doesn’t mean working 24/7
I take four weeks off every Christmas, totally unapologetically. Yes, you heard that right, four whole weeks. And while I’m relaxing watching Christmas movies like The Grinch and Elf (classics), baking cookies, going to the panto and soaking up all things festive, my marketing strategy is working its sparkly little socks off, all in the background, which means I don’t lose any money, or my audience don’t feel abandoned.
How? Because I planned ahead. And you can too. Let me show you how…
🎄 Festive magic on your website
Your website is your digital shop window, so let’s make it look like it’s ready for mulled wine (yuk – hand me the prosecco) and fairy lights.
✅ Update your homepage with seasonal offers. Got a festive bundle, a limited-time service, or a cheeky festive discount? Make it visible. Add a banner, a pop-up, or a dedicated page that screams ‘I’ve got something special for you!’
✅ Incorporate seasonal keywords into your content. Think: ‘Christmas gift ideas’, ‘festive planning,’ ‘New Year goals’. Sprinkle those SEO-friendly phrases into your blog posts, product descriptions and headlines so your content shows up in all the right places.
✨ Give your socials a festive glow-up
Your social media is where your audience hangs out, so let’s make it feel like a hot mug of hot chocolate with marshmallows and sprinkles.
✅ Update your profile pics and headers. A festive twist on your banners (LinkedIn and Facebook), or a santa hat on your profile picture, instantly sets the tone. It’s like putting up your digital Christmas tree.
✅ Refresh your bio links. If you’re running seasonal offers, make sure your Linktree (or equivalent) reflects that. Don’t make people go digging and risk losing them.
✅ Share your favourite festive moments. Whether it’s your go-to Christmas playlist, your best gingerbread recipe, or your favourite family traditions, this is the season to get personal.
✅Get creative, design some festive graphics and reels that will help build a connection with your audience. Connection is where the magic happens in your marketing. Show them the human behind the brand and why they would want to buy from you.
📣 Communicate your time off
Taking time off only works well for your business if you communicate it to people. Make sure you do the below;
✅ Update your email auto-responder. Let people know when you’re away, when you’ll be back and direct them on where to find information in the meantime.
✅ Announce your leave on socials. If someone’s thinking of working with you, they’ll appreciate the heads-up.
✅ Give clients plenty of notice. A quick email or message a few weeks in advance shows you’re organised, respectful and committed to a smooth experience.
🧠 Schedule, schedule, schedule
This is where the time saving magic happens. With a bit of forward planning, your marketing can keep showing up even when you’re offline.
✅ Set time aside to batch and schedule your social media. If you can spend a few hours creating and scheduling your content, it removes the pressure to constantly be on social media when you want to be enjoying the festivities. It also means you can relax and decorate gingerbread houses, while your marketing is still connecting with your audience and attracting your ideal clients.
✅ Add a little festive sparkle into your graphics and reels. Canva is your best friend here. Create playful, on-brand visuals that feel warm and inviting. Think: ‘What’s your favourite Christmas tradition?’ or ‘My top 3 festive self-care rituals.’ It doesn’t, and shouldn’t be all business all the time.
✅ Pre-write and schedule emails and blogs. A couple of well-timed newsletters and blogs can keep your audience engaged while you’re offline. Share a story, a seasonal tip or a heartfelt thank-you. It doesn’t have to be salesy, it just has to be you.
Let’s keep it real
Seasonal marketing is about presence. You don’t need a 25-day content calendar, or a perfectly curated Instagram feed. You just need you: your voice, your values, your version of festive. So talk about what this season means to you. Share the messy, magical, real-life moments. Invite your audience into your world, even if it’s just for a few seconds.
Because when you show up upologetically you, your people feel it, resonate with it and will connect with you. And that’s where the magic happens, when you are unapologetic, create impact and build connection.
Let the tech do the work while you rest
Seasonal marketing magic is about setting up your systems so you can switch off, slow down and soak up the sparkle. It’s about showing up with intention, not exhaustion.
So go ahead, create your festive graphics, update your links, schedule your posts, and set that auto-responder. Then, log off, grab a hot chocolate (or prosecco), and let the season wrap you up in all its wonder.
